Asia FinTech Awards 2025: Voice of God at The Glasshouse, Andaz Singapore
On 22 August 2025, I had the honour of being part of the Asia FinTech Awards 2025 - but not in the way I usually am.
This time, I wasn't on stage. I was the Voice of God.
A Call from the UK
Barker Brooks Communications, a UK-based events company, reached out to me through their platform FinTech Intel to take on the Voice of God role for their flagship Asia awards ceremony. For those unfamiliar with the term, the Voice of God is the off-stage announcer - the voice that welcomes guests, introduces segments, and calls winners to the stage. You hear the voice everywhere, but you never see the person.
I was positioned off-stage at the front of the ballroom, near the stage, working in tandem with on-stage host Michelle Martin. My job? Make sure every cue landed, every transition felt natural, and every winner announcement built the right amount of anticipation.

The Evening
The Glasshouse at Andaz Singapore was a stunning setting for the night. Over 300 fintech executives, founders, and industry leaders from across Asia filled the ballroom for a black-tie dinner and awards ceremony.
The evening kicked off at 7.15pm with dinner, followed by opening remarks from the chair of the judging panel, Mr Mark S. Gorri-Chetta. From there, Michelle took the stage and we moved into the awards ceremony proper.
My announcements covered everything - the welcome address, dinner cues, sponsor acknowledgements, each award category introduction, finalist reveals, highly commended recognitions, and winner call-ups. A new Highly Commended category was introduced this year to recognise standout runners-up, which says a lot about how competitive the nominations were.
Award categories included Startup of the Year, LendTech of the Year, FinTech of the Year, and many more across the full spectrum of fintech innovation
Behind the scenes before the ceremony began
Why This One Was Special
I'll be honest - this was a role I don't usually play. I'm almost always the one on stage with a microphone, facing the audience. Being the voice behind the curtain was a completely different experience, and I loved it.
What made it even better? Hearing afterwards that the audience really enjoyed the voiceover work. That feedback meant a lot, because as a Voice of God, you don't get the visual cues from the crowd. You're reading the room through energy and sound alone.
It was also a privilege to support Michelle, who did a fantastic job hosting the ceremony. The interplay between the off-stage announcements and her on-stage hosting kept the evening moving smoothly from the first course to the final award.
