Bunkering Convention Conference Seminar Emcee Singapore | 2012 Brochure

I had the privilege of hosting the Singapore International Bunkering Conference (SIBCON) 2012; the World’s Largest Bunkering Event. A biennial event, SIBCON sees 1600 participants from over 50 countries all around the world. SIBCON 2012 ran from 16th to 19th October: it consisted of a Golfing Challenge, Conferences (with leading topics in the Bunkering Industry) and closing with a Joint Oil Spill Exercise (JOSE) that’s unique to SIBCON- participants got the opportunity to learn how to tackle an oil spill in the Port of Singapore.

SIBCON 2012 saw some very important people; we had Mr Lui Tuck Yew (Minister for Transport), and super star speakers Aaron Cobb (Global Director, ExxonMobil Marine Fuels), Thomas Knudsen (CEO, Maersk Line, Asia Pacific), Arsenio A. Dominguez (Vice Chairman Marine Environment Protection Committee, IMO), Jeff Lantz (Director, Commercial Regulations and Standards, US Coast Guard), amongst many others. It was an honour being in the company and having the opportunity to meet these influential individuals.

It was an extremely interesting event for me to host, not to mention a challenging one! I had no knowledge about the Bunkering Industry and had to do a ton of homework before I took on the job, but I can honestly say that while the research I did made a difference, I learnt so much more on my first day alone. By the end of it, I felt like quite the expert (especially with industry jargon) ;) Okay that was an exaggeration. Haha.Convention Conference Seminar Emcee Singapore | Melvin Ho | From Sound Console area

I must add- SIBCON 2012 wouldn’t have gone so well if it wasn’t for the fantastic work by IBC Asia – the event took up the entire convention centre at Resorts World Sentosa and he managed to run it without a hitch. Extremely impressive!

Big thanks to IBC Asia for having me at SIBCON 2012! I look forward to working with you again and putting newly acquired knowledge to good use! :)

That’s right, that’s me at the super Bacardi Singapore Cocktail Search Launch Party trying very hard not to look drunk on the job. Okay I’m just kidding, haha. I got drunk after!

I was super excited to be chosen to launch Bacardi Singapore’s Cocktail! It combined all the things I love in life- hosting, drinking and meeting people :P You see, right now when you think about Singapore’s signature drink, you always think ‘Singapore Sling’ because that’s pretty much all we have. So the people behind Bacardi decided it was time for Singapore’s next signature Cocktail!

This launch involved three local but very different Singapore influencers working with established bartenders to create three new Bacardi-based Cocktails. They came up with: Old Man and the Sea, Tiki Taka and Kampong Sour. In October 2012, the public, along with the media, were invited to the Launch Party to have a taste of these delicious new drinks (those who didn’t make it got to try it at popular nightspots!).

At the Launch Party, everyone was treated to watching these cocktails being made by the masters themselves and I must say, they worked hard to feed the excited crowd who kept wanting more! Post-drinks, attendees gave their votes and the voting was then open to the public via Facebook :)

The eventual CHAMPION: KAMPONG SOUR! It’s now being sold at several bars and clubs, most notably Zouk ;) You guys should really go have a taste of it- it’s soooooooo good.

Big thanks to Bacardi for hiring me and congratulations on such a successful Launch! :)

NESCAFÉ Singapore celebrates World Happy Day in 313 Somerset with Emcee Singapore Melvin Ho

Posted by in Recent Events

Hey guys!

IT’S WORLD HAPPY DAY! SO HAPPY WORLD HAPPY DAY EVERYONE! I know that sounds so odd but I couldn’t think of another way to say it haha.

I spent World Happy Day with NESCAFÉ this year along with a whole crowd of smiley, happy people! Thank you so much to the hardworking people behind the scenes and the generosity of everyone who made the event such a huge success! Before I get into the event details, check out some Shiny, Smiley, Happy People below!! :)

For this year’s World Happy Day, NESCAFÉ spread happiness all over Orchard Road! We partied the day away at Somerset 313 and for those who didn’t make it inside the mall, I’m sure they noticed that NESCAFÉ had painted Orchard Road RED with balloons, NESCAFÉ staff in red t-shirts, coffee mugs and photowalls!

NESCAFÉ handed out free-flow coffee in 5 flavours, along with NESCAFÉ balloons! All we needed in exchange were………………..

YUP YOU GUESSED IT! SMILES! And it was all for a good cause too! ;) For every Smile Photo taken during this event, $0.50 was donated to Operation Smile Singapore :D This donation was to give a special group of people the gift of happiness – children in developing countries who are born with cleft lips and other facial deformities could now regain their smiles through corrective surgery :) Yay! I mean, it’s something we take for granted really. We can have a smile on our faces any time, but there are some people in the world born without them and I’m sure EVERYONE was happy to help!! :)

For more information on how you can help, click HERE! :)

It was a great way to spend the day and I was genuinely surprised to see so many members of the NESCAFÉ senior management there to support the good cause! Even the Nescafe’s Managing Director was there! The NESCAFÉ crew worked really, really hard to get as many smiles as they could- even though there was a very prominent NESCAFÉ photowall, and plentiful of event crew to capture smiles within 313, NESCAFÉ staff gamely walked through the Somerset area “collecting” smiles with their personal cameras to capture even more smiles! Now that’s DEDICATION ;) Good job guys!!

It feels great that a century old Brand like NESCAFÉ is still putting in so much effort to do what they can for society :) I was so happy to be a part of it! Thanks for having me guys! I’m looking forward to the next World Happy Day! :D

Just an idea of how happy I was :P

Launch of National University Hospital NUH Quality Policy, with Emcee Singapore, Melvin Ho

Posted by in Recent Events

Hello everyone! :)

It’s been about a year since I last hosted at NUH so I was super duper excited to be back! This time round it was to Celebrate the Launch of the NUH Quality Policy! It covered:

• “Our Patients, Our Focus”  (Quality Care & Service)

• “Our People, Our Pride”     (Safe/Fulfilling work environment)

• “Our Processes, Our Challenge” (Continuous improvement)

Before I tell you guys every single detail (hehe), here’s a little update from the NUH Facebook page I thought I’d share:

This week, we launched our first Quality Policy Roadshow! The roadshow is in support of our existing efforts to reinforce the importance of excellence in service delivery, maintaining a safe and healthy workplace and continually improving our internal processes to make way for a better, more efficient NUH. Thanks to all our colleagues for your support at the event! We hope this is a good reminder to make Our Patients Our Focus, Our People Our Pride and Our Processes Our Challenge!

What an inspiration! :)

The festivities opened with our friends from the Workplace Safety and Health Council who kicked off the event with a skit on safety at work:

After which, NUH’s COO, Mr Noel Cheah, who was the Guest of Honor, helped to launch the Quality Policies and lead the NUH family in the recital :)

The Launch of NUH Quality Policy was a joint effort by 8 departments. They came together to create a wonderful carnival-like experience for the staff at NUH :) There were lucky draws, delicious snacks and each department created interactive game booths to share the Quality Policies in exciting ways, with some great prizes to be won!

“A warm welcome to everyone!” :D

Lucky draws!! :) I wish I remember what happened above- I could not look more stunned. Haha.

Lucky draws aside, there were fun and exciting interesting adaptations of classic games like “Wheel of Fortune”, Draw Something” and even fun games like the Japanese-arcade inspired “Pachinko” with a grand prize of some Carebear Plush Toys! There were  also polaroid booths for everyone to bring home some wonderful memories with group photos with their colleagues which I noticed everyone had a ton of fun with haha.

The picture above shows one of the most popular booths called the “House of Terror”, where NUH staff had the chance to pick out 10 “Terrors” from a simulated patient environment. E.g. Biohazard bag left on the floor, Cigarette in patient’s mouth, etc. Tough stuff!

Some of the booths at the event:

Check out the great turnout :)

It was great to see so many departments in an organization working so hard together, through so many weeks of planning, just so their fellow colleagues can learn through the wonderful experience of well thought-out exhibits, and fun and innovative games! It felt great to be back at NUH once again! The events are always great fun to host, and the NUH team is simply wonderful and a breeze to work with! :) I really hope to host with NUH again soon! :)

Till next time! :D
